True Grit
True Grit is a powerful story of vengeance and valor set in an unforgiving and unpredictable frontier where justice is simple and mercy is rare. Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), is determined to avenge her father's blood by capturing Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), the man who shot and killed him for two pieces of gold. Just fourteen, she enlists the help of Rooster Cogburn (Academy Award Winner Jeff Bridges), a one-eyed, trigger-happy U.S. Marshall with an affinity for drinking and hardened Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Academy Award Winner Matt Damon) to track the fleeing Chaney. Despite their differences, their ruthless determination leads them on a perilous adventure that can only have one outcome: retribution.

Well, I think I went into this movie with my expectations set WAYYYYY too high. As such, I was a bit disappointed with what I saw. Once again, entertainment media over-hyped and over-sold this, like they do Sooo many other movies. I keep reminding myself to ignore them, but alas...
This movie WAS good, don't get me wrong. Jeff Bridges was outstanding and saved this movie. All the characters were quite good; it just seems like the movie ended too quickly. Josh Brolin is in the movie for like 5 minutes which I found unbelievable.
It is worth seeing. 3 out 5 stars. So so - CheeryCherry
I have not seen the original with John Wayne, but I thought this was only passable. Jeff Bridges did an excellent job and I think there is no doubt he made the movie. Without him it really would have been bad. I just feel there are many other western films I've seen that were far better.Good, but didn't keep my attention - sickle
I can see why some people like this movie, but it just didn't hold my attention throughout. The acting was good, there were moments that just screamed western, good balance of action and character development...
But I just couldn't connect to the characters, and dind't really care what happened to them, especially with the dash for help at the end and what came across as a truncated ending.
