The Romantics
Nothing complicates friendship like love.
The Romantics is a generational "dramedy" about an electic group of friends who gather to celebrate the wedding of two of their own. When old feelings are rekindled between the groom and maid-of-honor, friendships and alliances are tested, proving nothing complicates friendship like love.

I would like to give this movie 2.5 stars - didn't dislike it but didn't like it either - wouldn't watch it twice or even go out of my way to watch is once. The general consensus of the reviewers is 2 star and I tend to agree.
It was predictable and kind of boring.
The only good part was the ending.Pretentious - Philip75
Pretentious, indulgent, insufferable. These three words describe The Romantics as a whole as easily as they describe the characters who populate it. In large part, that is because the movie explores the inner relations of a group of seven friends who fancy themselves in the league of the romantic poets. Somehow they never achieve such heights, despite the use of a large word or two.
From the beginning, the movie seemed to have potential. Relationships do not represent new terrain, but the simplicity and raw beauty of the opening scenes provided some reason to hope. As the characters emerge, however, the viewer quickly realizes how tightly confined they all are to the constructs of stereotype. In fact, they barely seem to connect when they are not doing shots or snorting coke.
A movie of this nature can only work with strong performances capable of connecting with the viewer. Unfortunately, top Hollywood names cannot save this movie. Anna Paquin is mechanical; Josh Duhamel is awkward; and Katie Holmes is flat. Together they offer only a cacophony of incomplete emotion and a visibly hopeless aspiration to intelligence.
Quite simply, The Romantics is a disappointing way to spend 96 minutes, lacking a single redeemable quality worthy of recommendation.Something Missing Here - MovieProf
My wife was watching this one the other day, so I sat down to take a look. I noticed two things right off the bat.
Despite an engaging storyline--a man prepares for his wedding day, but he still cares deeply for her ex, who happens to be the maid of honour--there are some real problems here.
1. First off, once again we have a jumpy camera movie. I cannot stand the new held-held technique that directors are so fond of these days. I somewhat get it in action films like the Bourne series, but here? There are times when two characters are talking, and the camera is jumping. What's the reason for this? Are we supposed to read something into the characters' emotions through the camera?
2. The soundtrack. Awful. Who are these artists? How were they chosen for this film? How do these songs possibly convey the emotion of the scenes in which they are used?
3. The ending. Actually, there isn't one, unless we use the pathetic fallacy to give us a hint. Or is the rain supposed to mean something else? Who knows. It is disappointing to watch for 90 plus minutes, and not feel any closure at the end of this film.
Anyway, a decent film, but it could have been so much better.
