"The psychological thriller is part Beautiful Mind meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind."
The pacing is relentless and the plot manages to find intriguing ways to keep a superbrainiac in danger. Limitless is a perfectly enjoyable movie with enough juice to forgive its lamer moments and contrived ending.
As it goes on, Limitless starts to run low on energy and even lower on plausibility. Like Cooper's character off of his meds, the third act really starts to wane and become a blurry mess. Regardless of this fact, the initial boost and likable lead were enough to keep me invested all the way through.Great but Fell Short of the Mark - Sigridmac
This could have been a terrific story. It started with an excellent concept – what if you could take a pill or a substance that would help you to use at least five times the amount of brain power that you're currently running on? And what if you got a little too ambitious or greedy about your powers on such a medication?
The acting was excellent and by and large I thoroughly enjoyed the first hour. Then it turned into a bit of a cat and mouse chase, and somehow the movie went downhill after that. It wasn't bad but it just could have been so much better. It was predictable and lacking in creativity in the second half. Maybe the writers ran out of NZT!
In that case, I suppose we should cut them some slack.
(And I totally agree with the previous poster that there was much gratuitous violence and unnecessary gross scenes.)exceeded expectations - crabbydude
Not a huge Brad Cooper fan, but he does very well in this dramatic role and I have a new found respect. As another reviewer compared, the story line is not completely new (Flowers For Algernon or the movie version "Charly") but it is well done in an updated version. The story flows well, has just enough suspense to retain interest, and moves quickly enough to keep the pace fresh.
