Mathew McConnaghee plays a street-smart lawyer who gets caught up defending a client accused of murder who he believes is guilty. The story revolves around the courtroom and investigation procedures and the moral dilemma of a lawyer giving someone a strong defense even though he believes him to be guilty.
I'll give credit because the movie was not overly gory or violent compared to a lot of the other trash out there. The soundtrack has a lot of rap music which I don't like and there is a lot of swearing in the dialogue but the characters and conflicts are strong enough to make it a decent drama. The story keeps you guessing what is going to happen next and there are lots of twists and turns right up until the last scene.Rich and Brainy Thriller - c4th
Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Phillippe are both brilliant in a clever courtroom thriller centering on a high price L.A. lawyer that works out of his Lincoln Town Car.
“There’s no client as scary as an innocent man.” Mick Haller is haunted by those words from his deceased father after he discovers a former client serving life fits that very bill. To “make this right” Mick must work through a plan that relies on combining his professional skills with street smarts to ensure the real culprit faces indictment. His career, his life, his loved ones are placed at risk as he attempts to circumvent the boundaries of attorney-client privilege. The solution to his dilemma draws from numerous established sub-plots. Manipulation of the system and back alley legal trickery play in this rich and brainy tale filled with moments of trepidation, triumphs and setbacks.
McConaughey’s performance is profound. He commands the screen at every moment just like the cocky and smooth talking lawyer he portrays would a courtroom. Phillippe is totally convincing as a bold faced liar capable of hiding all signs of deception. Frances Fisher plays the small role of an overbearing and protective mother with fervour.
Ingenious story writing backed by solid direction and superb acting performances makes The Lincoln Lawyer one of the best crime thrillers of 2011.McConaughey does better work with his shirt on! - HotTubber
Matthew McConaughey plays Los Angeles defense attorney Mick Haller, a guy who looks good in a suit, and has an ever-present vague air of sleaze. He has a driver and a car. But there is something kind of ghetto about this pretty white boy. His clientele are, for the most part, in the hood. He only has a driver because of a DUI, now he gets shuttled around in an old Lincoln town car, that would be more than a little pimpy if it weren't for the sharp-dressed lawyer in the back. Mick wheels and deals with the very people he represents. Mick is a little surprised when a fancy-pants spoiled rich white kid named Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe) asks for Mick to represent him. Louis has been accused of beating up a hooker, and he adamantly declares that he's innocent. It is more than a little curious that this "kid" is actually a 32-year-old man that is referred to by his family as "the boy"... shoot, talk about a silver spoon. The audience can see that Louis is more than a little shifty himself, and suddenly Mick is in the position of being paid big bucks to defend a man he doesn't believe is innocent.
The Lincoln Lawyer, despite fitting cleanly into a law-thriller formula, is surprisingly enjoyable, due in no small part to the surprisingly good supporting cast. Marisa Tomei, whose presence is always a delight, plays Mick's ex, also a lawyer (with a bit more morals), and she and McConaughey actually have a nice chemistry. So, for that matter, do McConaughey and William H. Macy, who plays a sort of working-man detective, which his long shaggy hair and un-ironic bushy moustache. Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo, and Michael Peña also make impressions in small roles.
When the twisty climax threatens to wind down, The Lincoln Lawyer does one of those silly twist endings that lost its impact after only the millionth time it was used. Just when you think the mystery is wrapped up, just wait! There is one more hanging chad!
