Sucker Punch
Born from the creative vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300), this epic action fantasy launches from the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Locked away against her will, Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four fellow captives - outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) - to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorki (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

This movie knocked me out. I went in expecting it to be campy and silly. And instead was met with a movie that is dark, unique and so very interesting. I don't want to give anything at all away, but let's put it this way, if you feel like you have to create worlds around you in order to get through tough patches you'll really appreciate this movie.
And there is an entire psych paper you could write on "baby doll" the main character. The whole thing is just interesting.
The dialogue is a bit brutal, hence only 4 stars, but if you look beyond that and see the stylized nature that is brought to this film, the very unique idea and that you'll hopefully be as pleasantly surprised as I was.Action packed - cozoho
This movie appeals to all age groups but I must admit more so teenage boys. It is filled with very attractive young women and fantastic action sequences. The story is very well done with an somewhat unexpected ending which keeps the viewers entralled throughout the movie wanting to see what happens in the end. It seems to be geared towards the teen audience but has a very mature and well written storyline. It is in the genre of japanese action films much like Kill Bill. It was a surprising entertaining movie.Polarizing film, you'll either love it or hate it - beatlejuice95
I have to say I come out on the side of loving this movie. This movie needs to be seen with the frame of mind that it's artistic, and somewhat open to interpretation. There are 3 levels of reality in this movie, so you need to be in the mood to pay attention.
First level is about a girl who's stepfather ends up getting her committed to a mental institution. Once inside, the movie flips to a different reality which is one way some of the other girls in the institution use to cope with their reality. They are dancers/performers in a prison like brothel. They teach the new girl that she must dance/perform to be kept around, but she is shy, so we enter another reality when she is performing.
Her level of reality is very surreal. She envisions fighting for her life for real, and she is almost like a super-hero fighting evil in her reality. It is visually stunning, and the music used is excellent in her fight scenes.
The reason I think a number of people hate this movie is because they either are the type of people who look for holes/goofs in a movie, or they fail to follow the different realities, as a lot is left open to interpretation.
On the flipside, I love a good action movie with incredible visuals. The girls in the movie are strong female leads who don't back down, which is another bonus. The music chosen for the film was great.
Definitely one of my favourite movies of the year.
