The Way Back
Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (Apollo 13), Jim Sturgess (Across The Universe) and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) and Colin Farrell (In Bruges) star in this epic saga of survival from six-time Oscar-nominee Peter Weir (Witness, Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World). Inspired by an incredible true story, The Way Back begins in 1940 when seven prisoners attempt the impossible: escape from a brutal Siberian gulag. Thus begins a treacherous 4,500-mile trek to freedom across the world's most merciless landscapes. They have little food and few supplies. They don't know or trust each other. But together, they must withstand nature at its most extreme. Their humanity is further tested when they meet a teenage runaway who begs to join them on their quest. A compelling testament to the human spirit, this gripping wilderness adventure is "Peter Weir at his hypnotic best" (Telluride Film Festival).

Unfortunately this movie didn't get the rating it deserved when it was released in the theatres. However it was critically acclaimed.
Now I know why!
Well shot, well scored, well acted and tuly inspirational...as mentioned by another reviewer the scenary is fantastic even though they use country "doubles" in the picture. See the special features which country plays Russia!!
Perhaps bit slow in some places but editing is over all good. Not excellent but good. I guess they had shot a lot of footage in different countries....so...this is understandable.
See this film to get an understanding of our current political climate!! If we are not careful it is easy to descend to this level!!Fantastic scenery - cozoho
This is a truly inspirational film about a group of men seeking their freedom in one of the most difficult times in modern history. The cinematography is beautiful. The characters keep you riveted throughout their journey. The acting makes you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling. This movie is a simple reminder of how are ancestors lived in a time much different than ours. Definitely a must see.The way back - Eklektik67
a very good film about several men who escape a gulag in Siberia at the beginning of the 2d world war and have to trek 4000 miles to get to Tibet and for a few India! They manage to pick up a young woman that they reluctantly at first and then try and protect on their journey. They have to try and survive the lack of water, food and extremes in weather and their lack of connection with each other! I understand this is based on a book, I assume by the Polish prisoner and its very well done. I won't give away the ending since its worth watching all the way through. What a choice - a sure death in the camp or a long, slow death trying to escape. Very good performance especially by Ed Harris and several others that i wasn't familiar with.
