Black Death
Journey Into Hell
The year is 1348. Europe has fallen under the shadow of the Black Death. As the plague decimates all in its path, fear and superstition are rife. There are rumors of a village hidden in marshland that the plague cannot reach. There is even talk of a necromancer who leads the village and is able to bring the dead back to life. Ulric (Sean Bean), a fearsome knight, is charged by the Church to investigate these rumors. Joined by a young monk and a small consort of soldiers, the journey ahead will lead them into the heart of darkness where faith is challenged and put to the ultimate test.

Set during the time of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, a young monk is tasked with learning the truth about reports of people being brought back to life in a small village. much better then I expected. It has some good suspense and thought provoking points. worth watching.Great movie - Wentai
Yes, depressing, but very good and very dark. I love grim, film-noir SF and fantasy. How often can I watch a dark, unhappy, generally hopeless noir film set in the distant past -- not often. This might be the only one. Worth it for that reason alone.
Grim, gritty, violent, sobering films are beautiful to watch -- you can enter this hopless, depressing and dangerous world for a few hours, all in the safety of your living room. That's why I love watching Vampire films so much.Thoroughly depressing! - cheapohubby
I supposed I shouldn't be surprised that this movie was a major downer; hard to make the beubonic plague enjoyable! And to score it as "I liked it" isn't really right. But I think the movie does succeed in doing what it set out to do. You're constantly guessing what's going on. Is there witchcraft? Are these "men of faith" going to survive? Why is there no plague in this village?
So; yes, it's worth watching. But it might be worth having a comedy as a follow-up, so you don't end up totally depressed!
