There's a little too much Tow Mater in this follow-up to the successful animated feature. The original had more life since it revolved primarily around the cocky stock car, Lightning McQueen. But, the sequel is a downer in comparison because it turns its attention to the loveable, but awkward and inept, tow truck. The spy story was a worthy twist, but never fully captured my full attention. The animation is spectacular - notably the details from the streets of Tokyo, London and Paris as McQueen hits each destination in pursuit of an international racing crown.Cars 2 - outwalking5
This is a very attractive movie, visually, and there is lots of action and humour. But where Cars 1 was child friendly, goofy and gentle, this sequel has a sharper, meaner edge to it that I found offputting and inappropriate for small kids. I was emotionally engaged by the first one but Cars 2 left me unmoved, though I did laugh a few times and did admire the technology. Too busy by far.Longer and more convoluted than the original... - cheapohubby
I'd probably go as high as 3.5 stars for this one. It'll depend on how much you like the tow-truck character; since he's the star of this one.
I wonder how well the kids are going to like it, since I thought the plot was a quite a bit more complicated and hard to follow (it is a spy story, after all).
There were a couple of cool aspects; seeing how they do the James Bond type maneuvers as a car were interesting. There were more vehicle types this time (boats and planes). And we got to see a lot more of the "Cars" world (there are no humans, so all the statues and archetecture is referring to cars).
