3 Backyards
From writer-director Eric Mendelsohn, the only two-time winner of the directing prize at Sundance (first for Judy Berlin in 1999 also starring Edie Falco) comes 3 Backyards, the story of three residents of the same town over the course of one seemingly perfect autumn day. The film peers deeply into the private lives of its characters as they embark on tiny, personal journeys that eventually carry them vast distances from everything that is familiar. The film debuted at Sundance 2010, was selected for Film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMa's New Directors/New Films festival and premiered internationally at Deauville in 2010.

I rented this movie because of the great cast, but unfortunately it wasn't done well and no good acting could've helped save this one.
I can understand the type of movie the director was trying to make - one that has different people of different walks of life connecting longing for more, for connection, for understanding, for some more in life - but there was barely anything to go on with in terms of the script. why was the actress being driven to the ferry crying? why was the one who drove her there crying afterwards? what was the story iwth the little girl finding the missing dog and coming across a weird teengaer? Why was the man who was intrigued by the mysterious black woman having problems at home? why and where was he running to and away from?
i dont expect every movie that i watch to give away everything, but the director really needed to make better connections in this movie for the audience to follow or even be remotely interested in. this mvoie started off with me wondering how were these people connected and what is it that they're dealing with, and i was left with more questions than i started out with. it was like an unfinished pie, just not good enough.
