Daydream Nation
Seventeen-Year-Old Caroline Wexler (Kat Dennings) is facing a teenager's nightmare: Her widowed father has moved them from the big city to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. When Caroline realizes she has nothing in common with the burnout losers in her new school she pursues the one person with who excites her interest - her handsome young teacher, Mr. Anderson (Josh Lucas). A bizarre love triangle ensues between Caroline, Mt. Anderson, and sweet, but troubled classmate (Reece Thompson). Featuring a hit indie soundtrack in this mash-up of the bizarre and the beautiful, Daydream Nation is a coming-of-age story for the 21st century.

Eerie coming-of-age comedic drama about a May-December affair - Scopitone
This is an absolutely beautifully shot teen drama that challenges the coming-of-age formula. The teenager is interested in her high school teacher, which is a familiar enough story, but it still manages to treat the material in a new way due to the character played by Kat Dennings. She's not very likeable and is therefore, not the stereotypical younger girl to the older man.
The backdrop is very eerie because there is a serial killer and an industrial fire burning. There are some beautiful scenes, such as at various parties.
Kat's character and Thurson are very sweet and hipsters-in-love appealing.
There was so much Canadian indie on the soundtrack I believe this film has to be Canadian!
