One Day
After one day together, July 15th, 1988, their college graduation Emma Morley (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess) begin a friendship that lasts a lifetime. She's a working-class girl who dreams of making the world a better place. He's a wealthy charmer who thinks the world is his playground. Somewhere over the next two decades, these two very different people realize that the love they've been hoping for has been there for them all along. Directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education) and based on the bestselling novel by David Nicholls, it's a touching story critics call "a smart and endearing romantic comedy." (US Weekly)

This must have become an instant classic. Has ALL the right ingredients. Good story. Terrific cast. Excellent location. Good music. Tender moments.Something people can relate to type of incidents.
Yet despite all these, I came out feeling disappointed. Something is missing from this movie. Editing perhaps? Too many characters. Too many foci. Is this about son VS parents conflict? Is this about genesis of alcoholism?
If it is all about friendship, then someone should have pruned a lot of things out of this movie.
Tragedy? Well, the movie goes on after the tragedy!!
Very linear. Very uninspiring.
That's too bad . This should have been an excellent movie. It is unfortunatley not.Heartrending, real, endearing, tragic, melancholic, slice of life - moviemonger
Having read 'One Day' the book, the film pales in comparison to a great extent. The film rushes through various chapters resulting in the making of unestablished central characters. Casting seems another issue. Anne Hathaway looks older than Jim Sturgess physically and the two lack the sparkling chemistry this film needs, thus making it too mediocre a product when compared to the book. Anne Hathaway has an on-off British accent and that disappoints too. The actress has her moments but too far and few. Jim Sturgess on the contrary is impressive with his apt portrayal of Dexter. Confidence bordering on arrogance, arrogance stemming from ignorance, naivete, stubbornness leading to self-destructive demeanor... Jim Sturgess does it all with conviction. It is he who makes you laugh and cry. However for those who are not into books, this is one romantic drama you must not miss out on.Sweet, suprisingly good little rom-com - Scopitone
I really dislike Anne Hathaway but I still enjoyed this movie! (There's just something Julia Roberts ish about her, I don't know)
It's a very pretty film to look at, especially the early years, the 1980s when Jim Sturgess is looking like a lovely young cad.
It drags on a bit towards the end, but a good date night, curl up on the sofa film!
