Another Earth
Winner - Special Jury Prize, Sundance 2011
This "deeply emotional... extraordinarily profound" (USA Today) film became a must-see sensation at the Sundance Film Festival. "Beautiful, bright and fearless" (Associated Press) newcomer Brit Marling and fan favorite William Mapother (TV's Lost) star as Rhoda and John, two people whose worlds collide after a tragic accident. Their intimate drama plays out against the astounding discovery of Earth 2, a parallel world that poses provocative and fascinating possibilities. Does a new Earth mean a chance at another life? Another destiny? Another self? "Another Earth is science-fiction at its best" (The Hollywood Reporter) - with a mind-bending surprise ending that you will never forget.

Amazing, gripping, excellent - Hugh
This film was critically acclaimed for good reason. It is incredible how much emotion and character pours out of Brit Marling. An intense, powerful film, with very little dialogue. The journey of a young woman dealing with the emotional consequences of a terrible, careless act. Don't let the first few minutes trick you into thinking this is a formulaic story. Far from it.Big Disappointment - newdaysof
I was tricked into thinking this would be a good movie by the front cover of the DVD: a beautiful picture of a woman standing in front of an Earth-like planet. The title itself suggested it would be a top-notch sci-fi adventure. Instead, it was a dull, boring, poorly produced flop.
Written and directed by Mike Cahill who has the audacity to show himself as "cinematographer" in the closing credits. There is no cinematography in this movie, just an unsteady handheld camera following characters in poorly lit situations. I'm sure he saved a ton of money by doing the whole thing with a hand-held video camera but he cheated his audience. Compare this piece of cr*p to great works of art like Kubricks 2001 or Barry Lyndon. Kubrick was a cinematographer who used the best quality cameras, film, lighting, editing, sets, and overall production values. Cahill used the worst of everything and made nothing much better than a home-movie.
The story and plot are absurd, the acting weak. On a scale of 1 to 100, Kubrick's 2001 scores a 100, this thing scores a 1.
