not enjoyable - amaryllis

If you enjoy television dramas about whiny families, you'll enjoy this series. Otherwise, it's advisable to avoid it. The members of the Pryor family are the central characters in this drama set in the early 1960's. The children, two high school age children, and two elementary school children constantly defy their parents. Although the 60's is a time when teenagers and adults began to question traditional social norms and mores in order to make the world a fairer and freer place, the disobedience of the Pryor children seems to be motivated by pure selfishness. Meg wants to dance on American Bandstand so she disobeys her father, and lies to her family. J.J. doesn't feel like playing football so he quits the team even though his family is relying on him getting a football scholarship as the only way he can enter university. The constant whining and squabbling by the children is tiresome. The plotlines seem contrived. The characters seem one dimensional and unable to make connections with each other.

I'm not a expert on the history of the 1960's, but the timeline seems to be slightly out of whack. Was the restlessness and rebellion the show tries to portray really seen that early in the decade? I'm not sure.

All in all the series was a disappointment. I couldn't finish watching the first season because I disliked it so much. Perhaps it's possible that the show improved in later episodes. The other 2 seasons are not on DVD as of yet.

An Awesome T.V Show That Taught Me Alot! - aLee

I thoroughly enjoy watching this show. It follows the life of the Priar family, in particular teen girl Meg Priar, who dances on the television show "American Bandstand," which, back then, was just like MTV is today. The show is heartwarming and exciting and I have learnt so much from it about that particular time period! It is definately not only for the elderly, teens will enjoy it too! Recommended for those 13+.
