I do not find this show extremely entertaining but I find that I can not stop watching it. The more I think about the more I come to grips with the fact that the show is very slow moving. This is not your typical western shoot ‘em up type movie. In fact in the first two seasons there hasn’t even been one gun fight. I was expecting the show to have a lot more action. It is instead rather slow moving and rather than drawing you in with action it draws you in with its great characters.

For simple comparison sakes I’d call this a western soap opera. You find yourself entangled in the lives of everybody in Deadwood. Each character is uniquely interesting in their own way. There is a stark contrast between the wealthy well-rounded individuals and the seedy commoners. You find yourself falling in love with some of the characters while absolutely despising others. You get lost in the love triangles and interested in the shady underhanded tactics used by the saloon owners.

Would Deadwood be as exciting if it added great action sequences to the show? Definitely. However, it does a great job of telling a story and the acting is exceptional. The costumes and scenery is very realistic and sets the mood for the entire show.

Once you start watching you’re going to be drawn in! Enjoy!

Deadwood, both seasons, is rich with realism. The way people lived that can only be conjured in our imaginations comes to life in this series. To read history texts can be boring, but the writers of this show a thorough "know" of the times and the clothing and set design build upon the characters. At times I feel I am there and am immersed in the overall feel and yes the smells. The show's creators do not gloss over the dirtyness of the times nor the incongruent vocabulary. The expletives intertwined with common verbage such as convalesce. A highly recommended series, however a fully adult show and not for children.

Entirely engaging.

Although some time had passed since I had watched the first season, the plot and story line were flawlessly continued. Of course, reviewing the season one recap was very helpful.

Unlike the first season, i found the dialogue easier to understand. This may have more to do with my expectations and becoming accustomed to it than I was in the first season. The dialogue continues to be rich and layered.

Although we lost Wild Bill last season, new characters are introduced and add flavor to the town. Looking forward to Disk 2.
