Can Rose trust a man with a new face? David Tennant (Viva Blackpool, Harry Potter) steps into the role of the Doctor, now in his 10th incarnation. Following on from the phenomenal success of the first series, the second series is full of more thrills, more laughs, more heartbreak and some terrifying new aliens and old acquaintances. The Doctor and Rose meet Queen Victoria, an evil race of Cat Women, K9 and Sarah Jane, and the dreaded Cybermen.

Great new Doctor - CJSmith

David Tennant is an excellent Doctor!!! I liked Chris Eccelstone a lot, but this new fella is pretty good. Good stories, solid effects, good maintenance of the Doctor tradition. "Rose" is a bit flighty for my tastes, but she occasionally shines. The aliens are generally well done.

Doctor Who Series 2 - klyj

Eccelston did a fantastic job as the Doctor and Tennant just gets better and better as the series progresses. The wonderful thing about this incarnation is that you don't have to have been a fan from the early days. The show is accessible to new viewers, while holding onto the history - as evidenced by Sarah Jane and K9. The story telling is marvelous and it's great to see a show in this day and age that does not always wrap up at the end of the broadcast hour.

This series has drama, humor, tragedy, everything you could want in excellent TV. For the new viewer, and the old, we learn more about how the Doctor came to be the last of the Time Lords, and he gives out tidbits of his history for the new viewer.

Another Strong Season - Gregg

The continuing stories of the Doctor an alien Time Lord with a human appearance who travels time and space for adventure and to help others. Along for the ride is Rose (Billie Piper) a former London shop girl with whom the Doctor has become quite close if not quite romantic.

The big change for Season Two is a new Doctor, the series has long benefited from the convenient Science Fiction based conceit that the Doctor when mortally wounded can regenerate into a new form. Thus we have the justification necessary when either the producers wish to make a cast change or as in this case the actor (Christopher Eccleston) wants to leave to avoid typecasting. The new Doctor is played by Scottish actor David Tennant and he is both very compelling and effective in the role.

Series producer Russell T Davies apparently planned to maintain a sequence in the stories where trips to the future, the past and the present are intermingled and balanced. The result is that series doesn’t concentrate overly much on any one aspect. Thus we get space ships and aliens intermingled with historical personages such as Queen Victoria and Madame de Pompadour as well as personal stories of Rose’s family and friends. For long time fans of the Doctor Who in Season Two we see the return of a former companion of the Doctor's as well as some well known monsters.

A considerable strength of the series is that it looks great photographically and has some great locations. This is a big change from the original series which had the considerable limitations opon the budgets necessitating a reliance on poorly constructed sets.

My favorite episodes of the season would be; "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Love and Monsters". Also while I didn’t find the two part conclusion overall to be the most compelling episodes the final few scenes are some powerful and effective of the whole series. Despite a change in lead actor the series continues to be quite strong and compelling.
