Six unemployed men inspired by a touring group of male strippers, decide they can make a small fortune by putting on a striptease show of their own - but with one small difference. Good Film with a Title that Became Part of Our Lexicon - Gregg

Enjoyable British Comedy with a title that became a part of our vocabulary, whereby a group of unemployed steelworkers come upon an opportunity to make a little extra money, male strippers.

The performances are very natural unaffected with actors who look like real people from the bad teeth to the lack of personal hairstylists, makeup artists and wardrobe consultants. The characters also have their own idiosyncrasies; they are insecure and have faults which make them more realistic than the characters in your typical Hollywood movie.

The cast included Robert Carlyle just one year after “Trainspotting”, Mark Addy in one of his first big international roles and Tom Wilkinson already an experienced actor but before his two Oscar nominations.

Besides the humor, the film has something to say about the affects of losing a job upon your self esteem and personal pride, in this it has a lot in common with another British comedy from the same year “Brassed Off”. Except that in “Brassed Off” the characters were coal miners not steelworkers and they performed in a brass band not as male strippers.

The film was surprisingly nominated for 3 Oscars; Best Picture, Best Director (Peter Cattaneo) and Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen (Simon Beaufoy who recently won the Oscar for “Slumdog Millionaire”, and won the Oscar for Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score.

Amazing Comedy - Jimmy_Jam

Is it just me or is there some extra funny about British comedies? The accents, slang, and style of the language is a recipe for comedic genious. This film is really refreshing and original. It brightens up the comedy genre, especially if you are into the recent British films as I am. The film is also touching in all the right moments, and easily balances the transition between drama and comedy. It is a great time, and a no brainer: watch this film,

Classic British Comedy at it's Best - karembeu

The Full Monty is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again, and you always laugh!

Being English, and from the North of England, I can relate to the context of the movie very well, but you don't need to be from Britain, Hamilton, or even Bethlehem, PA to get the desperation of these lads in a terribly economically depressed area. Do they moan? Hell no! In typical British fashion, they get their kit off.

The premise is so ridiculous that it is totally believable, and the characters are wonderful. Robert Carlyle is one of the best British actors in film today, and has done some riveting TV performances too - but this is one of his rare comedy outings.

Bottom line, this is a laugh out loud comedy that you have to see.
