Better than the first - Metricmiler

That superb collective of Marvel Comics superheroes has once again returned for another exciting adventure, this time even more breathtaking and fun than the last one was. In a tense political atmosphere that smells of greater conflict between mutants and humans to come in the future, a vengeful human scientist (Brian Cox) has taken it upon himself to extract vital information from the imprisoned Magneto (Ian McKellen) that could endanger the school for the 'Gifted' run by Dr. Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the students within it. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) would like to be helpful but is still preoccupied with finding out more information about his life prior to the amnesia he suffered after having painful experimentation done on him, while across the country Storm (Halle Berry) and Jean Gray (Famke Janssen) investigate an assassination attempt on the U.S. President by a yet-unknown mutant with transporter abilities named Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming). Great character development, marvelous drama and absolutely seamless visual effects make for one of the most exciting adventures of the season and the promise of even better quality in the films to come. Whereas the original X-Men felt simply like a preview for a later chapter and featured much fewer thrills, this one comes across as a totally engrossing, complete action film with elements to spare. The cast continues to have a great time, and the audiences will definitely feel no different.

an improvement on the first one - clauditorium

Mutants good and evil must unite to fight a foe who wants them all dead. This sequel would be completely ordinary were it not for a few clever touches. With the benefit of confidence, it gels better than its predecessor, powered by a more dynamic story (which doubles as a metaphor for homosexuality) and rock-solid performances by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, all of which lends it a bit of substance. On the debit side, it remains fluff (a major character dies, for instance, and I found myself totally unmoved), some characters' superpowers are too vaguely defined to be compelling, and the special effects are mediocre.

X2 - the saga continues - Canada123

Great special effects and leading cast members but still typically over the top - its an action flic trying to get into the Star Trek space without the substance.

Good eye candy for both sexes but no real depth of plot - just great animated fight scenes spliced with what is supposed to pass for conflicted characters trying to find themselves
