Buffy The Vampire Slayer
"A High-Spirited Romantic Comedy" -Los Angeles Times
Blonde, bouncy Buffy (Kristy Swanson) is your typical high school cheerleader - her goal is to "marry Christian Slater and die" and nothing gets in her way when it's time to shop. But all that changes when a strange man (Donald Sutherland) informs her she's been chosen by fate to kill vampires. With the help of a romantic rebel (Luke Perry), Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos, the Vampire King (Rutger Hauer), his sidekick, Lefty (Paul Reubens), and their determined gang of bloodsuckers. It's everything you'd expect from a teen queen in the Valley.

What's missing is a real sense of humour and pathos.None of the characters are very interesting (unlike on the show), so you don't care what happens to any of them. There is some value in watching it for fans of the show, but it's mostly just a curiousity. For non-fans of the tv series, don't think that this .
A great, funny and satirical horror comedy from the mind of Whedon.

Joss Whedon writes a funny, satirical screenplay (which he later dis-owned, curiously enough) that is a lot of fun from start to finish. Kristy Swanson does a very good job in the title role, with Whedon's writing cleverly developing the character by turning Buffy from a typical, un-likable Valley Girl to a kick-ass fighter that we end up rooting for. Donald Sutherland also does a chilling job as Buffy's mentor with the banter between the two being the highlight of the film. Her reaction is pretty much spot-on how much teenage girls would react to being the Chosen One to hunt down vampires. The vampires themselves are effectively creepy, without having the need to be overly made-up to the point of being the laughable (a major flaw of the television series inspired by the film, which had vampires that were less scary and looked more like rejects from the cast of Twilight who got into some car accidents). The final dance scene also proves to be an exciting climax to what was already a very funny and enjoyable satire on the Valley Girl mentality, flipping it on its head. Buffy the Vampire Slayer proves to be an enjoyable ride in the same vein as the Evil Dead series and Roger Corman's classic B-movies.

Of course this isn't the TV series, it is what started it all. The movie might not have been the best but with out it, there would never have been a TV series, so I for one am happy that it was made. I think that concidering the year, it is a decent movie.
I do like how the movie and TV show are tied into each other and that the TV show was better than the movie, but over all this movie was ok and if it had been better, then it would never have been a TV show, it would more than likely been made into sequals, so for that fact I rate this movie high because we got such a great TV show.
