Children of the Corn
The Original That Started It All!
When a young couple finds themselves stranded in the isolated community of Gatlin, Nebraska, they discover that all of the town's adults have been slaughtered by a religious cult of twisted children who worship a mysterious cornfield deity. Can these adults escape the fanatical wrath of these adolescent zealots, or will they become the next blood sacrifices to 'He Who Walks Behind The Rows?'

Children of the Corn is a bad film. There, I said it. I wanted to like this one, lots of friends had told me it was a horror classic. Stephen King's name is all over the front of it. Cool concept. Corn is scary as heck. So, even with all of that going for it the thing felt so disjointed I couldn't get into it.

As with the previous reviews, when I first saw Children of the Corn as a child, I was terrified. Watching it as a de-sensitized adult however was a different story.
Though still fun to watch this "Lord of the Flies" in the heartland of America, it really is more camp than terror this time around. If you grew up watching the other Stephen King adapted stories, then this will still be a fun ride, but if you are not the least bit scared by a movie like "Hostel", then this will probably disappoint.
Not Like I Remembered It.

Like JimmyFace, I remember seeing this when I was pretty young, and it freaked me out.
Seeing it again, I'd say it still starts out strong, with a group of kids killing off the adults in their small town. But it soon flounders.
The character of Isaak (the young cult leader who convinces the children to kill everyone) is just so unbelievable. We needed a back story on his creation, or an adult actually behind the whole thing to make it credible.
And then there's the way they talk to each other in biblical language - "question me not Malachai". It was just goofy.
And then they sort of bring in a devil like creature that is actually behind it all, and somehow, that was less terrifying than the though of a child cult alone.
A very creepy core idea, a very creepy beginning, but this script needed some work.
