Robert Shaw (The Deep, Jaws) and Harrison Ford (The Fugitive, Air Force One) star as fearless World War II commandos in this thrilling follow-up to The Guns of Navarone. Directed by Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger) and adapted to the screen by Robin Chapman (screenplay) and Academy Award winner Carl Foreman (screen story), it's a large-scale action / adventure saga with "remarkable special effects" (Los Angeles Times) , a powerful cast and "one hair-breadth escape after another" (Newsweek).

In the darkest days of World War II, Hitler's armies are storming through Europe, annihilating all opposition in their path. But U.S. Colonel Barnsby (Ford) plots to strike a crippling blow to the brutal Nazi forces. To succeed, he'll need to help of the most skilled and lethal soldiers in the world: the Force 10 squad, fresh from its triumphant mission at Navarone.

"From the Book" in name only - MovieLover5

This was a disappointment in a number of ways, not least of which it only very loosely follows the novel. Robert Shaw was good as Captain Mallory, and Edward Fox while quite also good, just seemed an odd choice as Corporal Miller. Barbara Bach seems to be there only for a short and minor role, and to show her, ahem, attributes. And as for Carl Weathers, well, he and his character were completely nonsensical. So, screen writing aside, it is quite a visual picture, filmed in the former Yugoslavia. You have to accept that special effects 30 some years ago cannot compete with today's CGI stuff, but at the same time, when they show a modern electric train engine in one scene, it seems jarring. I mean, they couldn't find a period engine to pull the train?

Bottom line, if you're looking for a great screen interpretation of the novel, you'll be sorely annoyed. If you just want some WW2 flash/bang, then it's OK.

Very disappointed - Speanz

As a Harrison Ford fan, I was disappointed in this movie. While he was good in his role, I am still trying to figure out if this was considered to be a drama and/or a comedy.

Probably the most distracting part of the movie was that the music was never appropriate and took away from the scenes, actors, and dialogue.

Long.... But good! - XTRUClerk

It's hard not to love this movie. Okay, it's dull in spots and sometimes you find your attention wandering to other things... Like the walls or your feet. Still, the cast is terrific enough to bring your focus right back to where it belongs for any fan of the 70s and 80s. What other movie has Carl Weathers and a very young Harrison Ford trading verbal jabs? How about Barbarra Bach and Richard Kiel, both fresh from the Spy Who Loved Me, interacting? How about Franco Nero (Jango for Heaven's sake, not to mention Lancelot from Camelot!). How about Edward Fox and Robert Shaw leading the cast with a touch of dignity. Add a good sountrack, a few moments of tension and action (very few as far as action goes) and one heck of a big dam falling apart and Force Ten is actually a very enjoyable film. Just a little long, that's all. Cheers.
