One mad New Year's Eve, an overwhelmed bellboy (Tim Roth) copes with witches and diabolical children, gets caught in the middle of a sour relationship and settles a bloody bet for members of a superstar's entourage. Featuring four stories by a quartet of hot directors (Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino).

Don't let room 1 fool you! - Chintease

Let me just say that Four Rooms put a smirk on my face. It's an up-beat take on dark humour from the nineties. As you may have guessed from the title, the film has four acts. The key to enjoying this film is to not shut it off during the room #1 scenes. Room #1 is weird and had me thinking about shutting it off but... If you get past Room #1, you will be rewarded with some memorable acting from a great cast.

This movie is very crazy. The first room (Allison Anders) wasn't the greatest in my opinion. The second was pretty awesome (Alexandre Rockwell) with some great dramatic moving-camera shots. The third was entertaining but a little too over-the-top (classic Robert Rodriguez). The last one was my definite favourite; a classic dialogue-driven Tarantino scene. The cinematography was excellent as a whole, however I feel the first room was a little lacking.
Tim Roth plays one of the most bizarre comedic characters I've ever seen, and at times he performs some classic face/body contortions and delivers some awesomely accented lines.
Definitely worth a watch, not the kind of movie I'll probably want to watch again and again but it seems to be pretty essential nonetheless!

Quentin and Robert Make a Movie - FilmJunkie

Ah the dream team. Individually, Tarantino and Rodriguez are brilliant and sometimes they really work well together, but this is sort of a disaster masterpiece.

The idea is to pin a bunch of short films together under the guise that they all occur in the same hotel, involving the same bellhop. It was actually directed by four different directors, but Tarantino and Rodriguez are the standouts, as they should be.

I don't really love any of the shorts, but if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be Rodriguez's weird story of two kids whose parents leave them under the supervision of the bellhop and they get into all kinds of mischief.

This was a great idea that just kinda fell apart...alas. 'Grindhouse' is better.
