Ghost Ship is a stylish, effects-packed chiller from House On Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts producers Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis and Gilbert Adler. Salvagers trained for any situation imaginable come face to horrifying face with the unimaginable after boarding a derelict luxury liner. Julianna Margulies, Gabriel Byrne, Ron Eldard and Isaiah Washington are among the hands on deck who'll confront a seafaring collector of souls. Steve Beck (Thirteen Ghosts) directs this terror-de-force. Bon voyage, fright fans!

Decent story and entertaining . . . - Filmaholic

Ghost ship has a decent plot and definitely keeps an audience watching. As far as horror movies go, this one is definitely not a waste of time.

It has its share of gore and you do not feel cheated when you get to the end. It won't be winning any awards any time soon; however, you will not feel your time watching it was a complete waste.

A factory made family "fright night" flick with minimal gore, zero action, predictable scares and average quality special effects. It starts well enough though, I was interested in the story, the cast is good and what's not to like about a derelict 1950s italian ocean liner? I have a very high tolerance for poor storylines if you give me a fabulous set, movie ambiance and great characters, I'll do the rest in my head thank you. Nothing of the sort here, but I somehow rented another Karl Urban movie without my knowledge so it wasn't a complete waste of my time. Yum.

It Gets Progressively Sillier As It Goes On - revsdd

The movie begins with what I would have to describe as one of the goriest scenes I've ever seen, as in 1962 a thin cable is let loose during a dance on a cruise ship, which proceeds to slice everyone (except for one horrified young girl) in half. It was gory - very gory. Having said that, it also gave me a little bit of hope, because it seemed to set up a possibility for a non-supernatural explanation for what comes next. Fast forward 40 years. A salvage team is tipped off to the cruise ship's discovery. It's simply floating through the Bering Sea, available for the taking. The crew sets out, finds the ship and starts the salvage operation, but there's definitely something wrong with the ship. I had half hoped that the strange happenings would be the result of the little girl having found a way to survive all those years, now being alone and probably insane on board. That was my hope. I thought that would have made a decent movie. Instead, once the salvage crew are on the ship, this turns into a not especially original ghost story that gets progressively silly until the final scene. If the opening scene was one of the goriest I've ever seen, that final scene has to rank as one of the silliest I've ever seen. Add to the story - which gets weaker and weaker as the movie goes on - an incredibly irritating musical score, and this ranks as a real disappointment - especially because of the early (but unfortunately unrealized) potential.
