Beat The Devil (The Complete 1953 Film):

In this satirical comedy, a group of mischievous adventurers, led by Billy Dannreuther (Humphrey Bogart), attempt to secure land in East Africa which contains precious uranium. Unlikely paired in an Italian seaport while awaiting boat repairs, theses crooks experience many wrong turn, mistakes and double crossings which eventually account for their failure. Directed by John Huston, written by James Helvick and adapted by Truman Copote.


The Jack Benny Show (aka The Lucky Strike Program):

Jack Benny was an American institution - his radio show, begun in 1932, was immensely popular and continued so when it appeared on television in 1950. This hilarious October 25, 1953 episode of the Jack Benny Show offers a rare glimpse of the comedic side of Bogart. The episode features Benny and his cast of regulars, who serve up a brand of comedy that seems innocent by today's standards, but is still brilliant. Here Bogart is clearly playing a caricature of his many gangster roles, yet it is primarily the way the cast responds to him that makes for great old-fashioned entertainment.
