The message of the Christians arrived, through a low profile Jewish fringe group, and was spread in only a few decades throughout the entire Roman Empire, "In the world, but not of the world"; the state grew suspicious. Wild rumors of ritual murders and secret societies made the rounds. When the Christians refused to acknowledge the official imperial cult, they were subjected to several waves of oppression.

The theological guessing game about the structure of the Christian faith made great progress. The prime issue was the nature of Christ and the mystery of the Trinity. Several times the Emperor Constantine convened the bishops of the realm to a council and forced them to unite, though he kept his distance. Not until he was on his death bed, did he finally have himself baptized.

Filmed on location in actual historic, biblical sites. Featuring full-scale dramatic re-creations, this series explores the archeology and origins of Christianity and how it came into the world.
