A small town sheriff and innkeeper unknowingly harbor a former FBI informant named Maceda. He is being hunted down by tough, burned-out FBI agent Gene Gere to testify against his former boss and friend, a major narcotics kingpin named Orosco.

But the drug dealers want to get to Maceda first. It's a race against time - and a race against death! Gere finds himself in a war with Orosco as he tracks Maceda south.
