disgusting and pathetic - Amadeus

First, I don't know the comic book, and I don't care. "Sin City" is a film, so I judge it as a film.

The stories that the film tells are ridiculous, pure banality, devoid of any imagination, suspense or interesting characters. People are shot and fatally wounded again and again and still live on. When they finally die, how can I believe that they're really dead? Pathetic.

There is constant violence. Neither does the violence hurt nor is it fun or beautiful or provocative or does it say anything else apart from the author/director saying: "Look how proud I am of my sick mind". It's simply childish, cynical violence without any meaning. Disgusting.

This film was meant to look great, to be a feast for the eyes, right?. How come there's NOT ONE SINGLE frame in it that I could call a "beautiful shot composition"? How is that possible? Even Lars von Trier's endlessly dreary "Dogville" had one beautiful picture in it. If you like Black and White and Film Noir, go see the classics: "The Big Sleep", "Kiss me Deadly", "Out of the Past", "Rogue Cop", "Killer's Kiss", anything. Just stay away from "Sin City".

With this film Robert Rodriguez proves once again that he has very little imagination and very very bad taste.

“Sin City” blew me away, easily surpassing anything I’d hoped for from the film. Wildly provocative and featuring one of the sexiest casts collected together in a feature film. Robert Rodriguez and “Sin City” creator/co-director Frank Miller have made a movie that feels retro yet is so fresh and new. It’s not supposed to be. It is Frank Miller’s fictional world of “Sin City” brought to life straight from the pages of his graphic novels. “Sin City” is violent, surprisingly humorous, sexy, innovative, provocative, visually stunning, relentlessly entertaining, and a movie that delivers something even the most jaded of moviegoers haven’t seen before. Gorgeous and gory, a graphic film noir taken to the next level, “Sin City” is not just for devotees of Frank Miller. “Sin City” is definitely not a movie for everyone. The film’s unapologetically graphic and if you’re not prepared, you may find it more offensive than entertaining. There are three lead male characters - one to anchor each of the trio of episodes that form Sin City's structure. The main male star of “Sin City” is Mickey Rourke, in his best performance of the decade. City engrosses to the point where we're no longer watching actors with names, but the characters they are playing. Sin City is worth a whole gaggle of viewings. It's a meticulously-crafted weapon of a movie that will please, disgust, and inspire loyalty among comic fans and strong-stomached general audiences alike.

Not what I thought - RubikusIV

I originally thought the movie would be violence and sex, with no real plot to it. Boy was I wrong!! It is actually a really well done movie. The violence is there, and quite graphic, but the trick with making the bloody scenes silhouetted, was a real stroke of genius. The acting was well done, for the genre it was in. It was a very enjoyable film to watch: it gave me a better appreciation of Bruce Willis!!
