A classic 70's movie! - Cricri7

The 1970's were a decade of catastrophe movies...ships...airplanes...you name it...they made a movie about it. I won't tell the story of this movie because, I think, everyone knows it well. I decided to zip it since I was too young to have seen it when it came out. I had only seen only parts of it on television so I felt like seeing it in its entirety. It was fun to watch and to see faces, like Shelley Winters and Red Buttons, now gone.

Better than the remake for sure - PowerPipes

This classic telling of a ship capsized by a rogue wave will hands down outpace its successor in each and every department except special effects. The acting was perfect as you would expect from a top notch cast and realistically even the “effects” all be it a bit dated were very well done.

It should be noted that if you were only ever going to watch the original or the remake, by comparison the remake was made into something utterly cheesy, marginally more visually appealing and basically boring.

The Poseiden Aventure - Tessa

I saw this movie in the 70's and loved it so much. The remake came out and I had to see it, but was disappointed. I couldn't remember that much about the original, but felt let down when I watched this remake.

I got my husband to watch the remake with me, telling him it was a great movie. He hadn't seen the original. He liked it the remake, but then I ordered the original. He loved the original movie more and couldn't figure out how they figured out the remake.

The original might be a bit dated, but it was much more exciting than the oringal because there is much more charater development. Who would care if the cast lived or died if you didn't know who they where.

I think the remake was to short on charater development and to high on special effects. You have to get to know the charaters to care whether they love or die.

I felt more empathy for the character in the first movie than that remake.
