Get ready for Thirds - the greatest fairy tale never told continues with a whole new hilarious comedy of royal proportions. Too much - ICMattai

This is easily the weakest of all the Shrek movies. The advertisments in it are weak and the story leaves a lot to be desired. You can really tell that there wasn't a need for this addition to the series as it is nowhere near as polished or as funny as the other two which are classics.

disappointed, to say the least - tifflez

Sadly, after seeing this last Shrek film, I feel that this series should have stopped after the second film. While I understand that, naturally, this film is made for children and was most likely quite enjoyable for them, I found that it was not nearly as enjoyable as the first and it's sequel. In the movie industry, there have been hits and major flops, in my mind, I wouldn't stop myself from saying that this was a flop.

Dreamworks Takes Eyes Off The Ball - TheShamus

The first two Shrek movies are amongst the most commercially successful animated movies of all time. Usually, animated movies must have a very strong script to get made ... because they require a huge capital expenditure. By the third movie, we know the characters -- so character development is most unnecessary.

Bottom line ... Dreamworks gives us a movie which does little more than steps through the paces. The movie has the quality of good direct-to-DVD Disney release. The storyline is not very interesting. There are plenty of quickie jokes, but the movie never engages the viewer.

Visually, the movie shows no improvement over the impressive visuals from Shrek 2. In fact, most of the graphics look reused -- and at times, somewhat static. While the Pixar movies show a constant improvement in animation, Shrek doesn't pull many new tricks from his bag.

The movie trailers advertise a Shrek baby ... and tease it in a dream sequence, there is surprisingly little time spent on this development and the possibilities.

I can only imagine that the writers have become their own "fan boys" -- playing on all of the favourite chracters and moments from the first two movies -- and devloping few new characters or memorable moments.

I do not blame reviewers who rate this movie lower, and in comparison to the other Shrek releases, this one is likely a one star affair. However, in the grand scheme of things, Shrek 3 is still worth a rental ... still popular with many kids ... but whether this kills the series remains to be seen.
