Pow Wow Trail: Episode 7 - Pow-Wow Rock

One of the most recognizable elements of Native expression is the Pow-wow. But very few people outside the culture understand it. They do not understand the significance of the songs and the dances behind Pow-wow; they do not understand the rites and ceremonies contained within a Pow-wo. They do not understand the meaning of the clans, or why Indian people dance. Here, we explore the true meaning, beyond the feathers and beads. Culture lives within the people; it is expressed through those who practice and participate in these celebrations.

Episode 7:

Expressing themselves in the white man's world, Indian musicians have adapted the traditional ways into a new style that has found its way into the mainstream. This DVD features such contemporary artists as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Keith Secola, and a cappella trio Ulali. Over the course of two years, producer Jeremy Torrie and his film crew traveled to over forty reservations, ceremonies, and pow wow celebrations to record the various perspectives of people living, traveling, and competing on the pow wow circuit.
