Acclaimed actress Rosario Dawson plays the most controversial character of her career: a promising college student who becomes bent on seeking revenge after a shocking act of violence is committed on her.

Maya (Rosario Dawson) is like many other college co-eds, booksmart yet shy – curious about men, yet scared to let herself go. One night at a party, she meets Jared (played by Chad Faust) and begins dating him. He seems charming, intelligent and mysterious, yet Jared is more than meets the eye. With one violent act, Maya’s world is flipped upside-down. She turns to drugs, alcohol, and the company of an underground club DJ Adrian (Marcus Patrick). He can sense her pain and together, they plot a revenge scheme that renders Maya just as vicious as her attacker. But is revenge enough to heal an open wound?

In the winter of her senior year, Maya talks to Jared at a frat party, accepts his invitation to dinner at a nice restaurant, then goes to his apartment, just to talk. He assaults her. Her personality changes, she's withdrawn; she graduates and takes a job at a clothing store, staying apart from co-workers. At night, she's someone else: a beauty at the club scene, dancing, seductive, sniffing cocaine, becoming the friend of a heavy hitter. She thinks about her racial identity. That fall, she's a grad student, and Jared is in an exam she proctors. She invites him to her apartment; he's certain she's stuck on him. Rosario's a great actress but this movie falls short of expectation.

How low can she go? - BluEyes

This is a plot of rape and revenge. Between the two is a story that will leave you puzzled. Why is the college girl so sad and awkward to begin with? Why does she start hanging out at a seedy club, doing drugs, dancing suggestively and getting in good with the scary, tattooed deejay? Is there a method to her madness or is she just plummeting down, down, down? Do you care?

Not So Shocking As Reviews Would Infer - kav2001c

The film itself has good parts, but the whole is not put together well. The major problem is the beginning, middle, and end dont connect. Each on thier own are passable, but as a coherent story they fall apart. The film also tries hard to shock the audiance, but is obvious in how it unfolds (& nonsensical).
Maya falls in love with Jared. Although its obvious to the audiance she has no idea what love is. Jared does rape her but what happens next boggles the mind. There are two ways to play it; either she uses the rape as an excuse for how her life unravels, or she was already predisposed to violant sex (which makes ending more plausible, but eliminates any sympathy you might have ever had for her).
She then goes into weird fetishes (domination, s&m) gets into drugs and meets some weird people. Supposedly this is an injured psyche trying to regain control of her sexuality but I just dont see it.
Which brings us to the ending. Ok so she gets her revenge. Really the only reason this is "shocking" is because we as normal white males are supposed to feel her anti-masculine rage.

I felt it was a dark moody film, but seriously lacking.
