The Ten, directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) and written by Wain and Ken Marino (The State), is a wildly outrageous comedy that tells ten stories based on the Ten Commandments, each one more insanely funny than the last. Boasting an eclectic cast that ranges from Jessica Alba to Adam Brody to Liev Schreiber, the comedy is anchored by the narration of a philandering husband played by Paul Rudd. The Ten is a grand burlesque of interconnected comedic sketches that finally put the sin back in cinema.

It was interesting to see all the appearances by name celebrities. The production quality seemed a little bit amatuer and the humour could have been better. Other than the bit with the CT machines, there wasn't a whole lot to laugh at and it seemed like it was searching for cheap laughs with vulgar humour and off colour jokes at times instead of relying on the script. Overall, a good idea with some name people, but could have been better.

Ever Wanna See Winona Make It With A Dummy? - JasonTHX

If you answer "Yes!" you're prayers have been answered. How about Adam Brody stuck in the ground, Jessica Alba and Famke Jansenn (and Dianne Weist!?) Fighting over Paul Rudd, Oliver Platt doing a bad Ah-nold impersonation in front of his 2 grown black sons, or how about Liev Schreiber in a duel with his neighbour as to who can own more CAT scan machines? But my favorites scenes have to be Winona Ryder engaging in wild puppet sex with a vantriloquist dummy, and the luminous Gretchen Moll losing her virginity to Jesus Christ himself in Mexico.

Yeah, "The Ten" is that kind of movie.

Written and directed by David Wain and Ken Marino, creators of "The State" and "Wet, Hot American Summer", "The Ten" is an anthology film much in the vein of Monty Python. Exploring each of The Ten Commandments (but I think Three of them are left out) in short comedic premises. Some really work (The second segment with Moll and Justin Theroux as JC himself, the Ryder scenes, Platt's performance and Scrieber's deadpan segment) some kinda don't (Rob Cordry's jail scene is strained) and an animated sequence which doesn't fit at all. It is to be fair a mixed bag and because of it the movie keeps shifting. Some jokes are repeated too many times ("It was just a goof" for example.)

But the movie has a "Let's just go for it and have fun" vibe about it that is absolutely infectious. And Man, is this cast game. Even Jessica Alba who to be honest looks tired in her big budget movies, actually posseses some charm and spirit here even though I have to warn you Alba fans - she's hardly in it. But still she hasn't been this decent in anything since her slinky role in "Sin City".

This is comedy not for everyone's taste. It's more "Chappelle's Show" Than "SNL" But if you're brain is slighlty askew like mine you'll appreciate a crazy, out-there, unsafe, wicked movie like this.

Thou Shalt Not Rent This Movie - ddubins

Ok, perhaps the title of my review is too harsh. I did enjoy watching this movie, although there were times my wife kept apologizing for renting it. Winona Rider gave an exceptional performance falling for a wooden puppet. The naked men party scene at the end really made the movie worth sitting through, it was quite hilarious. I also enjoyed the empty stage/stone tablet theme, and the acting in this movie is pretty decent for a comedy that doesn't even take itself seriously. In truth, I actually feel guilty for slamming a movie that for once tries to modernize and convey squeeky clean values that have been tramplied on by the variety of mafia movies that have been glorifying crime and violence, since the Soppranos hit it big.

However, the comedy falls short as a series of loosely stitched sketches that don't make much sense on their own and are lacking in realism (cat scans can not cure radiation poisoning, and someone really survive skydiving without a parachute?). That's ok, it's comedy.

I don't regret watching this movie, it was light hearted, fun, and silly. If you are on a plane and the earphones are $1, I would recommend purchasing the earphones. Better yet, bring your own earphones. Hey, you'll save a dollar.
