As usual, I would have preferred something that was shot when they were at the peak of their success to see what it was really like but I believe that these guys have probably been doing the same thing for the past thirty-some years. For a while, they might have included a few more gimmicks to their live appearances but the sobriety of this one works very well too. The set includes all of their best known songs and then some; difficult to ask for more. The overall quality, both audio and video, is excellent as this is a fairly recent show. You also get a few extras on the DVD that are, overall, interesting and informative. I have watched this with people who knew them fairly well and others who did not know them at all and everyone enjoyed it. If you enjoy DVD's of live shows, you will enjoy this one even if you're not really a fan of ZZ Top.Pleasant surprise - hometheaterjunkie
I've always liked ZZ Top, but more from a "remember them fondly from the 80's" feeling than a "this is a great band to spend 2 hours watching" perspective. So, I rented this DVD with the assumption that I would watch a few songs, skip to a couple of classics, and that would be it.
To my pleasant surprise, I found myself watching the entire DVD from end to end and really enjoying every aspect. First of all, I never realized how fantastic a blues guitarist Billy Gibbons is - some of the best performances were on the lesser known songs, where he could really let go, and I found myself marvelling at why I never watched him more closely before.
Second, the entire band are such experienced pros - all the moves work well, I laughed multiple times at their little trademark comments and actions, and there was never a missed beat. These guys show why they became such a well-known band; it wasn't just the hits, it's that they REALLY know how to play.
Third, it was a really fun concert from end to end. Not a lot of action or effects, just the 3 guys working through the songs. But for someone who loves watching live performances by great musicisians, this was gold.
If you're looking for a fun night at home with a few drinks and a great DVD to watch, give this one a shot.
