Daniel Craig (James Bond 22: Quantum of Solace) stars as Tuvia Bielski, an ordinary citizen turned hero, in this action-packed epic of family, honor, vengeance and salvation. Defiance is a riveting adventure that showcases the extraordinary true story of the Bielski brothers, simple farmers - outnumbered and outgunned - who turned a group of war refugees into powerful freedom fighters. Happiness is the best revenge - gingericecream

This film has everything, suspense, drama, action and truth. I am constantly amazed by the lengths people had to go through to survive during the second world war. This film focuses on a group who fight the germans from the woods. The story revolves around the brothers who lead the Jews through this time.

A War Movie Everyone Can Enjoy - c4th

Defiance is based on an inspirational true story about Polish brothers who defied the Nazi regime by escaping into the woods and banding with others that escaped massacre. It is an emotional story of survival about standing up against oppression.

The two eldest brothers conflicted over philosophy. Zus chose the proactive approach in which he and a few followers joined the red army as resistance fighters. Tuvia mused “Our revenge is to live.” Under his leadership, most of the band stayed in the bush and formed a sort of nomadic commune.

The movie’s main focus is a chronicle of the hardships suffered by Tuvia’s group as they developed their community in the wake of invading Nazis, harsh wintery elements and food shortage. There are underlying themes of morality shifts, human needs and family conflict.

The movie contains a significant helping of war action sequences and human drama covering the full spectrum of emotions. This is a war movie that everyone can enjoy.

Unique WWII film - lise

I'm a huge fan of Liev Shrieber and Daniel Craig ain't too bad either, so I was really looking forward to seeing this film and it did not disappoint. Their performances were excellent. They were the kind of performances that could seem just ok, because they didn't overplay anything. Not quite understated, but very even. I did, however, wait before seeing the film because I wanted to see The Bielski Brothers History Channel's documentary first, but I finally let up and watched the film first, so I don't know how accurate it is. If you like action movies, you will not be disappointed. Nor will you be if you are more into character driven stories. It blends the two quite well. As for the story, without giving any spoilers (yes, I believe there can be spoilers even for films based on true stories) it focusses on a very specific and unique moment of WWII that will be refreshing even to those who have have seen every war film ever made. It is also somewhat uplifting, and not due to any Hollywood trickery, but because of the story itself.
