If you have not seen this Steven Spielberg masterpiece, then you need to do so.
The acting is FANTASTIC and the special effects are phenomenal.
The story keeps you going from start to finish and the pace is furious.

The concept I always loved about this movie is the idea that DNA from dinosaurs could be trapped and still surviving in tree sap. From a science perspective ... it seems plausable that this DNA could be mixed with surviving reptiles in order to recreate these massive beasts.
Steven Speilberg and associates put plenty of money into the flick. The premise behind the movie is the building of a theme park on a island which plays host to these newly created dinosaurs. Before the park is scheduled to open, things take a turn for the worse.
The original movie was fun because of the original premise, and seeing the dinosaurs as they may actually have looked millions of years ago. The musical score is great and the visuals are up to modern standards (although the effects would be eclipsed by the sequels).
The downfall of Jurassic Park is partially the storyline -- and perhaps the casting. The movie always seemed more like a "ride" than a movie with actual "heart and soul". Speilberg made a decision to make this an action flick ... which is fine, but it works against a really good storyline.
The original is the best ... and 4-stars is pretty generous (all things considered). This is comperable to the big budget, "Twister" in terms of the "special effects" being the star of the movie.

This is big budget action adventure done right.
On the action side, we have cutting edge special effects that spared no expense, and more than hold up today. Turn off the lights and turn up the volume, as mimicing the big screen experience as much as you can will make this all the more enjoyable.
On the story side, we have a smart script, that comments on man's arrogance. What's great about this film is, it's not that far fetched. The science makes sense, and it's easy to envision this actually happenning. We do feel superior to nature, and we do try to pervert it for our own benefit.
Jeff Goldblum's character in the film is the one who, hopefully like the audience, is asking, "is this right?". As he says as he listens to the other characters talk about this wonderful creation - "The lack of humility before nature that's being displayed here, uh... staggers me".
Too right.
