I held off of watching this one for a long time, I've never really had an interest in pirate moviess and this one was not the exception.
The cast were uninteresting with the exception of Johnny Depp who managed to carry the show. Without him I'm quite sure there would not have been the numerous sequels. The special effects were good and it had the feel of a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, wonder why Nicholas Cage wasn't cast in the lead?A Pirates life for me! - hilkayaker
I LOVE this movie. I was so excited when this came out. Great acting, awesome swashbuckling scenes. Jack Sparrow is a great good and bad guy. Orlando bloom is great as William and Keira Knightly is good at her role too. Not as good as the guys, but I still like her. Johnny Depp (in an Oscar nominated role) steals the show as Captain Jack Sparrow, the amoral pirate in this fun-filled family adventure based on the Disneyland ride. Geoffrey Rush plays his old enemy Captain Barbosa. They played off each other exceedingly well.
You don't have to have been on the Disneyland ride to appreciate it, but it does help. Great special effects and great one liners. Well written diaglogue and lots of fun.
