Hidalgo
"It Will Take You On The Ride Of Your Life." - James Verniere, Boston Herald
A sandstorm of epic proportions. A swarm of locusts so massive it obliterates the relentless sun. Deadly traps that defy imagination. These are just a few of the astonishing obstacles Frank T. Hopkins, the greatest long distance racer ever, faces in the rousing action-adventure Hidalgo. Based on a true story and starring Viggo Mortensen (The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy), Hopkins (Mortensen) and his mustang Hidalgo enter the ultimate extreme sport of its time - the Ocean Of Fire. Underdogs challenging the finest Arabian horses and riders, they must not only survive the grueling race across 3,000 miles of the Arabian Desert's punishing terrain, they must thwart the evil plots of competitors who vow victory at all costs! A great story of personal triumph, amazing special effects and memorable characters make Hidalgo one of the most thrilling adventures ever.

Wow!! I was right to rent it again! I hadn't watched it in too long :) Viggo is great in this movie, the interaction with Hidalgo is one of a kind (reminds me of Lucky Luke with Jolly Jumper), and the bulk of their adventure taking place on foreign soil just adds to the interesting points of this movie.
There are some lenghts in the desert, but they're quickly done and over with, and don't ruin the rest of the movie, which is packed with action.
A must see!Horsefeathers - SPSullivan
A rollicking, old-fashioned adventure movie, "Hidalgo" demands little more from its viewers than their enthusiasm and their attention for slightly more than two hours, and delivers thrills and excitement in an exotic environment -- no more, no less. Had "Hidalgo" been crafted by less competent filmmakers, it would be easy to pick away at its paucity of deeper characterisation (it's no stretch to say that the titular equine is probably the second-best developed character in the movie next to Hopkins), the mostly predictable nature of the plot, or indeed the gross historical inaccuracies scholars now claim are perpetrated therein. But "Hidalgo" is beautifully photographed, keeps the audience excited and amused, and offers acting which, while hardly Oscar-calibre, nonetheless more than suffices to clearly paint who are the good guys, who are the bad guys, and who lies somewhere in between. Touchstone Pictures should perhaps be chastised for promoting "Hidalgo" as being based on a true story when it appears that Hopkins' tale has about as much basis in fact as other American legends such as Paul Bunyan or the viable three-party system. But by now, moviegoers should be well aware that that label has been reduced to the brink of meaninglessness. Enjoy "Hidalgo" as a throwback to the cowboy films of yore, and don't sweat the details.Must See ! - avijitkumar
Great cinematography, good acting, action, adventure and true to life depiction of desert scenes including a gigantic sandstorm. If you love horses, adventure or westerns, you would'nt want to miss this movie. Viggo Mortensen's acting is very intense, and Hidalgo, the spanish Mustang, is a beauty to watch. It is one of the best I have seen!
