Great Movie again - LilyandMick
This movie was great one again to watch. It had such a perfect scene and excitment that you never get bored. Johnny Depp did a great job on this main charactor and he is the only truly great fit for this movie. Even this 2nd one gave me the perfect fun watching this.!! - basilbenz
I just came out of the movie 30 minutes ago (as it was released a day before America over here).
The movie is visually stunning - the CGI is top rate and you won't spend the whole film groaning about how fake things appear on the screen.
Acting was brilliant. Johnny Depp once again proves why he's the only man alive who can play the role of Cap. Jack Sparrow. There's a great number of returning characters from the first film - including a couple I was very happy to see again.
My only fault was perhaps that this film lack a certain 'heart' that the first film had, which I believe came because the first film was something very different, which of course this film couldn't contend with.
That aside, you will hardly notice it. There's a good plot, wonderful sets, great acting and plenty of laughs. One of the best films I've seen all year thus far - can't wait for the 3rd one!STANDS ON ITS OWN - StEpHuLAr
The worst thing about a "sequel" of a great film is that it has to find a balance between paying hommage to its original, while not repeating it(although this is not technically a sequel, but another one of Jack Sparrow's adventures). If the second movie does too much different, fans feel alienated; if it sticks to its winning formula, fans feel ripped off because it doesn't take any risks. Dead Man's Chest finds itself in exactly that predicament.
I for one enjoyed it. On its own, it's an above-average film with lots of eye candy and a storyline simple enough to follow, which is nice, since it's obvious by all the efforts put into makeup, visual effects & cinematography that they don't want your attention to stray from what you're presented with on the screen.
Depp once again is tremendous, especially his comedic timing when it comes to expressions & pauses. Contrary to what's being said here, the scenes aren't drawn out too long, they simply help move the story along, building to its eventual climax, which is the only weakness of the film. The climax was average, and you almost feel cheated at the end of the ride... ALMOST. They obviously leave it open for another sequel (as almost everyone knows) and a pleasant surprise at the end to make you want to see more, and realize that the REAL climax of Dead Man's Chest was perhaps meant to be less than anticipated, for the real climax of the adventure is still to come !
OVERALL RATING: 8.5/10
