When lives are on the line, sacrifice everything.
After losing his crew in a fatal crash, legendary Rescue Swimmer, Ben Randall (Kevin Costner), is sent to teach at "A" School, an elite training program for Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. Wrestling with the loss of his crew members, he throws himself into teaching, turning the program upside down with his unorthodox training methods. While there, he encounters a young, cocky swim champ, Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher), who is driven to be the best.
During training, Randall helps mold Jake's character, combining his raw talent with the heart and dedication required of a Rescue Swimmer.
Upon graduation, Jake follows Randall to Kodiak, Alaska, where they face the inherent dangers of the Bering Sea. In his initial solo rescue, Jake learns firsthand from Randall, the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice, echoing the Swimmer's motto... "So Others May Live!"

Swimming, swimming - keep on swimming! - Hules
This movie was not great, but it kept me entertained for most of it. It's the typical American 'hero' story, but was interesting because it was about coast guards rather than the armed forces. Good performances by Costner as the veteran, and Kutcher as the rookie. Predictable for the most part, but still worth watching.Entertaining - Isis59
Ashton is great, as always. Kevin Costner's role is his usual tormented personality with life experiences he hasn't come to terms with. Not spell-binding but it will keep you entertained. The plot is not a complex one but good Friday night movie. It does reveal the life of Rescue workers which is a little known story and I appreciate their work even more.Long movie, glad they didn't shorten it! - suntep
Kevin Costner was made for this part and i think Kutcher was amazing. So many things had to come together and they did. It seemed to have a lot of endings to tell you the truth. I'm glad they saw it though. It is a really good look at an important service and as close as I want to get to it! LOL Even so I'm glad for the apreciation and understanding.
