X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first chapter in the X-Men saga, unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them.
Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar, as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, adamantium claws, and a primal fury known as berserker rage. X-Men Origins: Wolverine stays true to the tone of the X-Men motion picture franchise, continuing the films' balance between spectacle and reality, while heightening the emotions and relationships.
The film also introduces a team of mutants, including several whose appearances in the movie series have been long anticipated. Movie audiences will meet Team X, a covert military cadre comprised entirely of mutants. Its members are: Wolverine; his brother Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber), aka Sabretooth, a feral being of unimaginable power; Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), later to be known as Deadpool, a high-tech mercenary skilled at swordplay; Agent Zero (Daniel Henney), an expert tracker and lethal marksman; Wraith (Will.i.am), a teleporter; Fred J. Dukes (Kevin Durand), also known as The Blob, a morbidly obese and super-strong behemoth; and Bradley (Dominic Monaghan), who can manipulate electricity. Leading them is William Stryker (Danny Huston), a figure introduced in X2: X-Men United, but whose origins and motives are now fully explored, for it is Stryker's complex relationship with Wolverine that defines much of Logan's past... and future.

Really long and boring - Silverthorn
I did watch the original X-Men in 2000 and the rest of the sequels that followed. It seems as though they are milking this series for what it's worth, with Wolverine, with First Class, with two sequels. I saw this on opening night for free and didn't really enjoy it. I felt it was too long and couldn't relate to the story. And I am a huge fan of the original X-Men cartoon series and collected comic books in the mid-90s. However, if you loved the X-Men trilogy, you have a good chance of liking this one.X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Kingmeister
I grew up reading Wolverine comics because I loved him being an anti-hero. I saw it twice and thoroughly enjoyed it the second time around. Particularly the links between he and Sabertooth, William Striker and in X-men, the relationship he had with Rogue. Ryan Reynolds is unfortunately typecast as a wise-cracking ass who is the same character in Blade 3: Trinity. Loved Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth; much more intense than in the X-Men movies. Would I recommend this to X-Men fans; DEFINITELY YES. Good action movie all around and not a dull moment at all. I have to say I am SO relieved to finally know the back story of X-Men Alpha Male Wolverine; I watched him mope around Patrick Stewart's house for three movies, absolutely boggled as to what could have led any man to become a muscular, emotionally-retentive punching machine, and now I finally have the answer. As I suspected, the story of Wolverine's origins are only enough of a plot to fill a better movie's prologue, but here director Gavin Hood (Oscar winner for Tsotsi in 2005) has stretched it pointlessly over two hours and provided more basket-lining for studios and audiences to spend money on. After we meet Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and his brother Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber, he has the same power that Meg had on the "Super Griffins" episode of Family Guy, just so you know) in 19th century Canada, we find out that the brothers are early mutants and follow them as they live through to our century, survive wars and become elite killing machines for the American army after their impressive record in Vietnam (the fact that they are Canadian seems to matter very little to the plot). After being recruited by a special forces commander (Danny Huston), they grow apart as Sabretooth indulges himself in his violent power and Wolverine takes the high road, becoming a lumberjack in the Rockies and shacking up with a beautiful schoolteacher (Lynn Collins). Following that is your standard revenge-redemption story punctuated by some nifty special effects and laced with wisecracking characters haphazardly strung together from the Marvel Universe, plus endless explosions. To detail why this film is so moronic would be a waste of your time and mine, so don't bother with it unless you love comic-book movies enough to enjoy the bad ones.
