The Future Begins
The future begins in J.J. Abrams' smash hit Star Trek, "a burst of pure filmmaking exhilaration and an irresistible invitation for fun." (Scott Mantz, Access Hollywood). When the Romulan Nero comes from the future to take revenge on the Federation, rivals Kirk and Spock must work together to stop him from destroying everything they know. On a thrilling journey filled with incredible action, the new recruits of the U.S.S. Enterprise will voyage through unimaginable danger in one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed movies of the year.

In a wonderfully convoluted story involving time travel and revenge, Abrams burns up the screen with some very impressive effects while at the same time paying equal attention to the little details that had fans laughing and cheering; whether it was Spock’s upturned eyebrow or McCoy’s trademark crustiness. He doesn’t simply present us with an early version of an already established cast but rather develops them as fully fleshed characters unto themselves, allowing their camaraderie to develop naturally. The result is a completely engrossing outer space adventure that is at once exhilaratingly fresh and warmly familiar. This is a magnificent wide-screen blockbuster of a film that should be seen in a big theatre (we saw it at the Cinerama in Seattle). Guaranteed to bring a nostalgic tear to old-time Trekkers and a new enthusiasm to those who never even heard of William Shatner. Most fun I had (in a theatre) all year - JayP
I've been a long-time Star Trek fan, and was greatly anticipating this film. It was even better than I was hoping for.
People who are familiar with Trek lore will love the nods to fans, but even those who've never seen an episode in their lives will love this film. I went to see it with a large group of people, half Trek fans, half not, and everybody walked out happy.
I almost *never* want to see a movie two times in theatres. This is the first movie since Dark Knight where that happened, and definitely the only movie in 2009.
See this movie. If you like action, space, sci-fi, humour, etc., you'll like it.Star Trek, spot-on! - estefan
Director J.J. Abrams crafts a brilliant science-fiction adventure that can appeal to those who can't tell a Vulcan from a Klingon and yet has enough in-jokes that Trekkers will be able to get a kick out of it, too. Every single one of the actors embodies their characters perfectly catching every nuance, while also making them their own. Chris Pine and Simon Pegg worked especially well, but Karl Urban did the best of bringing forth the perfect little twitches necessary for Doctor McCoy (my favourite character from the original series). Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy also succeeds wonderfully in their respective roles as the villain Nero and old Spock. The visual effects are absolutely stunning and the action sequences are truly breath-taking, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Michael Giacchino's score also brings you into the world of Starfleet, making the original theme's appearance at the end all the more sweet and touching. And right from the start with the birth of James Kirk, Star Trek already touches the heart. The only issue I had with this was to make Uhura and Spock an item. It just didn't seem right, considering the characters, but it's a very minor sub-plot. Overall, this is a wonderful motion picture event standing on par with The Voyage Home, my favourite film in the series. Hopefully, this new series will live long and prosper.
