Fans of The Newsroom might enjoy, but it's getting older by the minute - eoguy
"Lateline" was one of those shows that managed to eke out an entire season's worth of shows despite constantly being perilously close to the precipice of cancellation. Series creator Al Franken managed to make a show about a fictional late night news program both hypnotically current/relevant and hilarious. And looking back, it's obvious why this show worked. But at the same time the show is stagnant, frozen in time and growing more stale with each passing year. Franken is enjoyable, playing a riff of his "Al Franken" persona from his "Saturday Night Live" days, but it is Megyn Price, (who would go on to do great work on "Grounded For Life") as one of the fictional "Lateline" producers and Robert Foxworth as the blowhard anchor who shine the brightest. Perhaps it's the laugh track, the references to events 10 years old now, or perhaps it just worked at that moment in time. Whatever the case may be, even though "Lateline" is still a funny show, it is not one for the ages.
