Contact
The Academy Award-winning director of "Forrest Gump" and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Contact" take you on a journey to the heart of the universe.
Contact, based on the novel of the same name by Carl Sagan, is the story of a free thinking radio astronomer (Jodie Foster) who discovers an intelligent signal broadcast from deep space. She and her fellow scientists are able to decipher the Message and discover detailed instructions for building a mysterious Machine. Will the Machine spell the end of our world, or the end of our superstitions? Will we take our place among the races of the Galaxy, or are we just an upstart species with a long way to go?

Poetic Science Fiction - crazyboutmovies
This is a very unusual science fiction movie. No alien invasion, no outlandish weapons, nothing blowing up.
Jodie Foster gives a wonderful performance as the determined astronomer who risks her career by trying to contact, or receive contact from, distant planets.
Perhaps because the story is taken from a novel by Carl Sagen, there is a poetry to the unfolding of events. I must say that the pacing is a little slower than the usual movie of this sort, but it works for this film.
It is unfortunate though, that people who believe in God are portrayed as an impediment to Jodie Foster's quest for "the truth."BEAUTIFUL - StEpHuLAr
This movie, while set in a Sci-Fi premise, is about discovering your own Faith. Whatever it is, all walks of life agree that it's better to believe in something rather than nothing. Contact is the story of Ellie (Jodi Foster) and her journey in discovering exactly what she believes in. The sets & cinematography are incredible and really help you engulf yourself in the environment of science, more specifically space reaserch. The special effects are subtle and don't steal your attention away from what's going on onscreen, which is something that plagues most sci-fi films.
The cast is strong, everyone delivers a great performance, and if you're willing to let go of a few beliefs, you'll really enjoy the ride this movie takes you on.
RATING: 9/10Really solid story telling and performances - XTRUClerk
I always say that if you see a movie with someone that you really don't like but you wind up liking the film, it's a really good movie. I really don't like Jodie Foster, but I really like Contact. There's so much wonderful philosophy in the film, religion, politics... The plot moves on so well, everything works. I especially like John Hurt's performance as the ultimate recluse (Howard Hughes locked himself on the top floor of a skyscrapper, Hurt's character goes one better by renting out a space station!). In fact it's the performances from everyone, even Foster, that really make this one great -- not the special effects from Zemeckis & co.. If you like good character driven stories this one's a must. Cheers.
