In the farthest reaches of deep space, the medical vessel Nightingale keeps a lonely vigil for those in trouble. When a frantic cry for help pierces the void, the crew responds with a near fatal, hyper-space dimension jump into the gravitational pull of a dying star. The disabled ship rescues a shuttlecraft containing a mysterious survivor and a strange alien artifact. Now the crew must unravel a chilling secret and escape the nearby imploding star before the forming supernova blasts them and the entire galaxy into oblivion!

Interesting, but it ain't "Alien" - RobBC
Although much maligned by critics upon its initial release, "Supernova" nevertheless presents an interesting, if hardly exceptional, story of first contact gone awry. The cast of beautiful people wear their roles well while some frantic editing and rocket ship sets bathed in glowing shades of blue allow us to suspend our disbelief for the full ninety minutes. However, the underwhelming CGI effects probably look better on a home screen and a host of energetic performances still fail to breathe life into a lacklustre script. Furthermore, whether this was intentional or not, the ship's robotic handyman, Flyboy, bears an uncomfortable resemblance to Woody Allen's clunky android in "Sleeper". A hauntingly surreal denouement and one tantalizingly unresolved thread ultimately save the film from total obscurity.Incroyable - morlock
Pour apprécier cette oeuvre, il vous faudra accepter le postulat de départ : d'un film de sf d'auteurs, les prises de tête avec la production ont fait une aventure tout public. C'est très regrettable, certes, et si j'avais fait partie de l'équipe j'aurais sans doute une bonne dose d'écoeurement en réserve.
MAIS, quand on se fait un petit DVD, ce n'est pas pour juger de ce qui aurait put être mais pour apprécier (ou pas) le résultat final (après tout, on ne connaît pas la genèse de la plupart des films que l'on regarde à longueur d'année). Et le résultat final est très satisfaisant : bon scénario, excellents acteurs (impressionnant contre-emploi pour James Spader), belle image et super réalisation.
C'est une équation qui donne généralement de bons films.
