Poolhall Junkies
Being hooked on the game could cost you your life.
Johnny was a pool hustler, one of the best, until he discovered how his manager, Joe, has ruined his life. He left Joe in the hands of some heavy-duty drug-dealers and split the scene. Now he's trying to get legit, save his relationship with his girlfriend Tara, and maybe even save his life.
Johnny's younger brother Danny is eager to follow in his footsteps - eager enough to find himself in debut to Joe who has returned with a new pool hall protégé. When Danny robs a store to pay back Joe, it's time for his big brother to take his cue. The final game has a pay-off that's bigger than money, bigger than life, bigger than either player can imagine. Because somewhere on the edge of the 8-ball waits a man's soul.

Great movie - Spokes
One of those movies you see sitting on a shelf and you figure what the hell. Then it gets into the story and your glad you rented a movie you never heard of.
Walken is always great in movie. It reminds me of a the movie rounders, but with pool sharks. Either you'll love it or you'll hate it I think.Semi-serious treatment of pool hustling - Porkchop
POOLHALL JUNKIES (2002) starring Christopher Walken, Mars Callahan
(for some, a John Cusack clone) and Chazz Palminteri is a skillfully
filmed picture, with a simplistic story encompassing the pool shots,
that's intended for the below 17 age bracket. This is unmistakable
from the simpleton juvenile humor, the age bracket of most of the
players themselves, the typical bar rock band and the obligatory
visually provocative young ladies.
The clownish treatment of hustling, as well as a public party held
at one of the youth's parents $3 million dollar home, the
misappropriation of tuition money for gambling on pool games, bets
made on boobs all weaken the movie experience, from the the great
sequence of pool shots, as well as Walken's and Palminteri's acting.
The predictable turn of events, is another liability.
The aspect that is better accomplished, are the more realistic ones
such as the physical violence that occurs, when one of the losers
exceeds his capacity to pay, the home schooling of a pool hustler
extending over a period of 10 to 15 years, the training and work
that goes into being a great player and honing the talent. Indeed,
the best players have chosen the game, because it's the only job
that they do, at which they're fantastic.
Some modest lessons are demonstrated, such as falling prey to the
equivalent of poker mechanics, which are the pool hustlers,
occupying the natural environment of in halls, waiting for the
innocent to participate, for various reasons, such as the challenge
to their egos, the excitement. All is on the line, luxury car,
watch, rings, etc.
Overall, this movie is perhaps best suited when played with the
audio off, in a sport bar, due to the light entertainment it
provides, having strong visually appeal.Never gets old! - arian
The cast was what first made me want to see this movie - Michael Rosenbaum and Christopher Walken are enough to make me watch just about anything - and I wasn't disappointed in the least. With sharp-witted, funny dialogue and an interesting story, I was hooked on this movie within the first five minutes. Mars Callahan pulled together an absolutely stellar cast and script; and despite the name and content, you don't have to be into pool to enjoy it. Though for those of you that are, it's interesting to know that the actors made most of their own shots.
