(Ottawa, ON) - In its continued support for the development and appreciation of Canadian film and video, Zip.ca, Canada's leading online DVD service, announced its sponsorship of the 2005 Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival (VIFVF), taking place from February 4 to 13 in Victoria, British Columbia. “The Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival is well known for its commitment to quality films, and also to the development of artistic creativity amongst Canadians, said Rick Anderson, President & CEO of Zip.ca. We are extremely proud that this festival is our first sponsorship of the year, and we look forward to ten days of great Canadian cinema in February.”
As part of Zip's sponsorship commitment, Zip.ca will become the exclusive online DVD sponsor of the 2005 Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival. By logging onto www.zip.ca, Canadians will have access to a comprehensive list of VIFVF films available for rent, past and present. Zip.ca will make all of the DVD-released films presented at this year's festival available to all Canadians, making it the first time these films will be accessible to a national audience.
"We want to thank Zip.ca for their generous partnership and their support and commitment to our festival," said Kathy Kay, Director, Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival. We're especially excited that our films will now be accessible to thousands of Canadians from coast to coast.”
In September 2004, Zip.ca sponsored both the Toronto International Film Festival® and the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. Zip.ca also extended its commitment of the Toronto International Film Festival® by confirming a simultaneous two-year commitment of support to Film Circuit. A division of the Toronto International Film Festival Group, Film Circuit facilitates the screenings of Canadian and international independent films in over 170 communities across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. The mandate of Film Circuit is to provide filmgoers in under-served communities with access to Canadian and international films that would otherwise screen only in larger centres.
