- Zip.ca creates its own Screen Legends -
Zip.ca (www.zip.ca), Canada’s leading online video service, today celebrates three years of delivering millions of DVDs and Unlimited Entertainment to film lovers across Canada.
“We have a very large group of people to thank for our success over the past three years – the thousands of film-loving Canadians who embrace this service and who have made it a part of their lives,” said Rick Anderson, President & CEO of Zip.ca. “We’re particularly thrilled to inaugurate our own Zip.ca Screen Legends - 40 members who have been with us, uninterrupted, since our very first days back in February 2004.”
Combined, these 40 “founding members” have rented 10,676 DVDs over the last three years. The most titles rented to date by a single Screen Legend is an astonishing 598 –at an average cost of just $1.98. (The longest-retained title was over 200 days, which might have cost some $500 at a traditional rental store.)
Of the 53,000 titles available for rent on Zip.ca, the most popular titles ZipListed by the Screen Legends are Little Miss Sunshine, Mystic River, The Illusionist, Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind, Lost in Translation, Kill Bill: Volume1, An Inconvenient Truth and The Day After Tomorrow. All of these titles were ZipListed by three-quarters of the Screen Legends – and all 40 ZipListed Little Miss Sunshine.
“Congratulations – I had no idea I was onto a great thing so early in the development. Your service has enabled me to workout without boredom! I watch 45 minutes of a Zip.ca DVD every afternoon – usually an episode of a TV series. The time passes quickly, I stay in shape and getting something to watch is incredibly simple, straightforward and it’s cheaper than joining a gym,” said K. Sutherland of Vancouver, B.C.
"Zip.ca has saved me countless hours of commuting to and from the video-store, and hundreds of dollars in late fees. Never again will I wait in line to pay for a DVD rental, rush back to video store to return a DVD, or waste 30 minutes at the video store trying to decide what to rent,” said member Sean Young. “Now I log-in to Zip.ca occasionally to fill up my Zip List, and DVDs magically appear in my mailbox. Returning DVDs is as painless as mailing a letter. Every spare moment is a rare treat, and Zip.ca maximizes my leisure time. With Zip.ca, catching up on 2 seasons of Lost and 24 has been painless and affordable. I recommend Zip.ca to all my friends, as I know they will enjoy it as much as I do."
“I think what I have enjoyed most is the opportunity to watch dozens of movies that are otherwise impossible to get, all of Bergman for example. Also I enjoy watching TV series such as West Wing but without having to think about episodes and times. The service works seamlessly for me and I look forward to seeing what you do next,” said Bill Allan, one of the original 40 Zip.ca members.
Each of Zip.ca’s 40 founding Screen Legends will receive a complimentary extra rental slot for the next twelve months, and carry a special new icon on any film reviews or other contributions they post at Zip.ca.
