(Ottawa) November 18, 2004 - It's time to celebrate! Zip.ca members have helped Canada's leading online DVD service reach two important records in just nine months: one million DVD rental requests and 500,000 DVDs shipped to members.
The millionth request is especially impressive given that half of the one million requests have been made in the last two months alone. Since its launch in February 2004, Zip.ca has now shipped over 500,000 rental DVDs to members, with future requests for DVDs numbering 771,335, making Zip.ca the fastest growing online movie service in the entire country.
The millionth request was recorded by Adrian Cavalcanti, a Zip.ca member from Richmond, British Columbia, who added Eddie Murphy:Raw to his Ziplist of must-see picks on October 14, 2004 at 2:45 pm ET.
"Zip.ca has what I need - excellent service, superb movies and high speed delivery. On top of that, I always find the titles I'm looking for, no matter how new or old they are. When I decided to sign up for the trial I wasn't expecting such a vast collection of movies. I did my research and believe me…I couldn't find a better deal," said Mr. Cavalcanti when Zip.ca notified him of his momentous ZipList addition. "Zip.ca impressed me to such a point that I have upgraded my membership to six movies per month, instead of the regular plan of four."
The 500,000th DVD was shipped to Jason Eeuwes, a Zip.ca member from Victoria, British Columbia, who was shipped The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black on November 10, 2004 at 11:36 am ET.
"Zip.ca is the most convenient way to rent DVDs in Canada," said Mr. Eeuwes. "With just a few clicks online, you can choose from an extensive movie library. The best part is the DVDs are delivered to your door. It doesn't get any easier than this."
To mark these occasions, Cavalcanti and Eeuwes will both receive a Zip.ca director's chair and a $250 Future Shop Gift Card.
"Members like Adrian and Jason are the reason we're successful. Their requests and suggestions shape our library and ultimately guide the direction of the company," said Rick Anderson, President and CEO of Zip.ca. "Thanks to member feedback, we've added recent enhancements to the Zip.ca website like DVD purchase capability, and we will soon have industry leading film reviews accessible to all members."
Zip.ca opened its virtual doors to Canadian movie lovers on February 11, 2004 and in under one year has become a leader in the movie rental industry by offering the best selection, value and selection that can't be matched by traditional DVD rental companies.
